Don’t get upset. Get better.

“It’s somewhat paradoxical to maintain rawness with polish; however, I believe that artists who derive a way to masterfully combine the two have a clear path for immediately recognizable, memorable, and profound music.”

An American singer-songwriter and record producer based out of the New York and South Florida metropolitan areas, J. Paris is known for his ability to create memorable and diverse sonic landscapes through melodramatic expression of personal and universal life experiences.
"South's Florida's very own," Paris has always been somewhat of a nomad. Living between Miami, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, he's called many places home; however, one constant in his life has not changed: the American Rap and R&B artist, producer, and writer became so not through sheer talent but instead through an ethic to create works that continually expanded upon the horizons of his capabilities.

Paris's style is remarkably raw yet undeniably suave which awards him the unusual ability to candidly express traditionally guarded sentiments, emotions, and feelings in a way that is both exceptionally resonant and uniquely appealing. Albeit being far from Toronto, Paris’s stylistically woeful undertones paired with smooth delivery elicits comparisons to modern influences including the likes of Drake, The Weeknd, and PARTYNEXTDOOR. Over the past 2 years, Paris's growth has been indisputable as he has continued to follow his motto of "Don't get upset, get better," creating projects in parallel alignment with his progression at Princeton — first with his Freshman EP, "Elephant in the Room," moving to his Sophomore and Junior mixtapes "Apologies For Breaking Your Heart" and "NO SECOND CHANCES," and finally culminating in his senior, and second EP, "Summerset."

“With most things in my life, but especially in my art, I have absolutely refused to release something unless I was convinced that it was objectively, and significantly better than my previous work. With every single, EP, and compilation I’ve released, I’ve refused to iterate without having objective and clear measures to exhibit undeniable improvement. This sometimes hinders the progression, speed, and amount of work I produce; however, it shows an irrefutable path towards increasingly well-executed, technically intricate, and profound art with each public release.”

With his first album, “Road to Elysium,” Paris displayed the culmination of his previous projects’ sonic progression and the height of his musical capabilities in his continual pursuit of the perfect sound. And now, with the follow-up to his Summerset series, in “Summerset, Vol. 2,” Paris works to display the other side of what he does best in his artistry by peeling back his usually elaborate soundscapes to its most raw elements, and expressing traditionally well-gated sentiments and emotions in a way that is truly resonant. Joining Paris on this journey will be tense, rewarding, and, hopefully, inspirational.
